Brief History

Hilde married Franz Pollhammer during the WWII. The boys were born in Salzburg Austria. Gottfried was born in Oct/1941 and Peter in Apr/1943, after their father went missing and presumed dead on the Russian Front. Hilde married Paul Hoenisch in 1954 before deciding to start a new life in a new country, Canada.

The Hoenisch's (Paul and Hilde) and the Pollhammer's (Gottfiried and Peter) immigrated to Canada in April 1954. Left Bremen-Hafen, Germany and came across the Atlantic in the Arosa Kulm passenger ship to Quebec City, then took the train all the way across to Coquitlam to meet up with their sponsors, the Wagners.

After Paul found work for Pearson Construction, they moved into a trailer at the Ranch Motel, Capilano Rd in North Van. The boys each had paper routes and delivered the early morning News Herald covering the British Properties, Capilano and Pemberton Heights.

When the boys started school at Larsen School, they repeated their last grade again because of the language difficulties. That's how one dealt with ESL (English Second Language) in those days.

In 1955, the family bought an old home in Lynn Valley, where Hilde still lives. Paul had a stroke in 1997 and passed away in April at age 84.
